A Walk Along the Rhein River

Uncle Konnie, Samantha, and My Cousing Sabrina

Every other year my family goes on vacation to Germany to visit my mom’s side of the family. They live in a town called Ketsch, which is right on Rhein River. We have a few must do’s every time we go… we walk along the river, we visit Heidelberg Castle, we spend a day at the Schlossgarten in Schwetzingen, we visit the cemetery, and we go to the Backfisch Fest. Our last trip was back in August. These are a few photos from one of our walks along the river. Stay tuned for more family photos from our trips to Germany.

the backfischfest is a 10 day festival similar to a county fair but without all the 4-H/livestock stuff. there are small time amusement park rides, games, live music, food and of course a HUGE beer tent. backfisch is baked fish and there is a fisherman component to the festival. i’m not 100% sure on this but i think for a few weeks before the festival there is a fishing competition and the person who catches the biggest fish is named the king of the fischerfest. hope that helps.

If you can’t tell from the photos, she is a real spitfire.  I’ve been working on a personal project for the last several years photographing my family in Germany.  To see a few more photos from the project you can go to my post, A Walk Along the Rhein River [...]
