Window over isle, for sure. This is the view over somewhere in Texas while on my way to Austin last month. I thought the clouds looked pretty cool.

Went to Apogaea a couple weeks ago with Ryan. It was quite an experience. Very difficult to explain in words but if you are familiar with Burning Man at all, it was basically a smaller, regional version. It was my first Burning Man type event and I wouldn’t say I am on the path to becoming a “burner” but the experience definitely reinforced my long held desire to attend Burning Man before I turn 40.

Definitely put me out of my comfort zone, which is always a good thing. I met some great people and learned a bit about myself. I didn’t take as many photos as I would have liked but these are a few from the Effigy Burn on Saturday night. It was a giant wooden squid which housed a cool kaleidoscope, set ablaze to chants such as “burn the squid” and “I’m ready for some calamari.”

We were down in the basement being silly, taking some deadpan family photos. Cec was totally in the moment, had her game face on, I set the camera timer too short and as you can see, didn’t make it to the couch in time. A happy accident, I think this shot turned out pretty funny. However, I definitely think it’s time to invest in a remote trigger or at least a cable release.

I was in Rocky Mountain National Park doing a shoot for the Colorado Tourism Office. The assignment was to get a shot of Skylar Johnson, a local Bagpiper and long time resident of Estes Park. Skylar was being interviewed for the Colorado State Vacation guide and Colorado.com. We did a couple different scenarios in the park, this one up at Bear Lake. I’ve got a light set up, an assistant holding a reflector, it’s pretty obvious that I’m doing a shoot. I’m snapping away and all of a sudden this random dude walks into the background and starts taking some pictures of the lake. It was pretty funny. I just kept thinking to myself, “Really?” It’s not as if there weren’t plenty of other spots to take a pretty picture from. And to get to where we were actually required a bit of scrambling. Ahhhh, tourists…good times.
